For 19 years Tony Monaco has
electrified radio audiences with stints at AM640, Energy 108 and for the
past 10 years a HOT 103.5, Hits 103.5 and now the New Z 103.5. Tony began
his career as an intern at 1050 Chum working for great personalities such as
John Majhor, Bob McGee, and Mike Holland. In 1986 he landed a job as a
producer / operator at 680 CFTR. Hanging out with the legends helped to
mold the person and personality that Tony Monaco is today. The Monaco Man's
1st on air gig was in March of '88 in Leamington earning a whopping 200 a
week at CHYR. Then on to CKKW in Kitchener, CHUC in Cobourg and in Jan of
1990 at CJBK in London.
In June of 1990 - The Hog was
born - a new in your face radio station roared onto the Toronto Radio
airwaves. It was Maximum Grunt! The Party Pig had the best slogan -
"Everybody Sucks But Us" Tony Monaco had to be apart of this radio station
filled with loose cannons. He dropped off a resume and a tape in a pizza
box and caught the attention of the program director Gary Aube. Days later
after originally stating he had no openings, the Young Clubber Tony Monaco
received a page while lying on the beach at AshBridges Bay. That call was
"The Call Of The Wild". On July 18th, 1990 Tony Monaco made his Radio
on-air debut at AM640 The Hog and the face of radio in this city changed
forever.
In 1991 the Hog changed format
and went Top 40 / Dance only to change format again in '93 going Talk-
Information. Although Tony was versatile and could do any format his love
was for Dance. In October of '93 - Monaco jumped ship and went to Energy
108 joining Chris Sheppard and company. In 1995 after working weekends and
evenings and hosting live to airs on Energy it was time once again for the
Clubber to branch off and do something different.
